在工业上，1-溴代烷的合成普遍采用的方法是由伯醇（也称1-醇）与氢溴酸为原料在浓硫酸作用下制备的。其缺点是伯醇价格高（中国需进口）；产品成本高；设备腐蚀严重；排放废水；能耗高；生产难能连续化；产品质量难以保证。国内主要是这种工艺，出口产品质量很难保证。
由于氢溴酸不好运输（产地限制，浓度低仅47%，强腐蚀性须橡皮桶包装），又有伯醇与溴化钠在硫酸作用下生成1-溴代烷的方法。 这种方法的本质与氢溴酸方法是一样的，就是用溴化钠与硫酸作用就地生产氢溴酸，所以除了设备腐蚀严重；排放废水；能耗高；生产不能连续化；产品质量难以保证的缺点外，产品成本更高，排放废物更多。
在生产1-溴代烷的方法中还有溴化法：由伯醇和溴与硫（或磷）反应制得1-溴代烷。国内也有厂家采用此法生产1-溴代烷的。这种方法生产的1-溴代烷杂质多，产物不易分离精制。
本技术采用1-烯烃与溴化氢反应，可高选择性地形成1-溴化物。可以说是生产1-溴化物的最佳方法，因为从经济、环保等方面来说都非常有利。目前只见用1-烯合成1-溴烷的研究报道，而未见工业生产方面的报道。最近美国有专利报道以丙烯与溴化氢为原料，在臭氧为引发剂作用下合成1-溴丙烷。反应条件温和，收率高。但臭氧不稳定，极易发生爆炸，臭氧不能运输，需要就地制备，这即增长了工艺又增加了生产的不安全性。 本技术、新工艺，与美国最新专利相比，工艺路线短，避免了使用易爆炸的臭氧做催化剂，生产过程安全、可靠。已获国家发明专利，有自己的知识产权。
其优点是1-烯价格便宜，原料转化率高，能耗低，可连续生产，是一条清洁生产工艺。
新工艺的经济效益在于：伯醇价格贵，例如正丙醇进口价1～1.3万元/吨，丙烯国产价0.3～0.5万元/吨，生产一吨1-溴丙烷需正丙醇542 kg，丙烯360 kg， 其他原料费相当；由于工艺短，可连续化组织生产，操作费用低；无废物排放，不需付环保处理费用。此工艺可充分利用当地资源，深细加工，产品附加值高，是一条清洁生产工艺，可以带动一方经济发展，符合国家产业政策。
二、应用范围：
溴化物是工业溶剂，化工原料，特别是用做医药、农药、香料、染料、表面活性剂、感光材料等多种产品的中间体，重要的精细化工产品。国内外市场大量需求的产品。
需要有溴化氢生产装置。此技术国内已用。
三、获得的专利等知识产权情况：
新工艺发明者长期从事有机化学方面教学和研究工作。获国家发明专利三项，有一项工业生产开发已成功，产品打入国际市场。本技术是第二项专利技术。发明人还有多项研究成果获奖；多项研究成果用于生产、填补国内空白，获得突出的效益。
四、规模与投资：
世界上仅美国、以色列、俄罗斯、中国等国家有溴的资源。中国溴资源主要分布在环渤海湾省份，其中80%资源在山东省。中国的溴资源利用还属于粗放型的，还没有形成集约化、规模化生产，是一些零散的小企业在生产。因环保立法等原因，国外有些公司已停止生产溴化物，市场需求的溴化物全靠进口。以色列是世界上最大的溴化物供应商，但其产量是有限的。全球溴化物的市场需求量还在不断地增加，由此可以推测1-溴代烷的世界市场潜力之大。这种形势，对中国特别是对溴资源丰富的省份是发展溴化物产业的大好机遇。1-溴代烷的国际市场要比国内市场大得多。1-溴代烷的生产应采用新技术新工艺，进行规模化生产，占领国际市场。
本工艺的原料溴化氢可随用随生产，其压力小于2个大气压，不必存储过多。多余的溴化氢可通入水中，产生高纯度的氢溴酸（国内还没有这种高纯度的氢溴酸），做为另一个产品。这也是调节工艺过程、使之发挥最大效益的一种方法。在国内生产溴化氢的技术是成熟的，可以借用。整个生产过程为常压下操作，能耗低，安全。
新工艺的原料为1-烯和溴化氢，反应转化率接近100%，不需要其它辅助原材料，加入的引发剂转化成副产物，可回收利用。生产过程不排放废物，是一条清洁生产工艺。
