Bt 生物农药适用于粮食、棉花、蔬菜、瓜果、绿地及林木上 200 多种害虫的防治，而对人畜安全无毒，不杀死害虫的天敌和有益生物，环境风险性低，不污染环境。
我国虽然加入了 WTO，但发达国家针对中国入世纷纷调整和提高了产品进口的技术门槛，形成了“绿色壁垒”，导致了我国农产品出口的大幅度下滑，而生物农药则是实现农产品安全生产与出口的重要保障，这一现实给生物农药的发展带来了机遇和挑战。现在，化学农药残留的危害已经受到人们的普遍关注，绿色蔬菜、绿色粮食、绿色食品、绿色奥运正在走进人们的生活，近几年的市场显示，生物农药的销量正在以 5%的速度递增。
目前，我国生物农药占农药市场总销售额的 2%左右，专家预言国内近 10 年，20%是一个比较理想的比例，因此，生物农药有着巨大的发展空间，市场前景十分广阔。

◆经济效益及市场分析：
2007 年 1 月 1 日，我国全面禁止了甲胺磷等 5 种高毒农药在农业生产中的使用，这意味着在未来 3~5 年内，高毒农药的退出将给国内农药市场留下 100 亿元的缺口。
